Will My Executive Team's Time Be Monopolized By Leadership Coaching?

Tailored to leadership roles and achieving team objectives, leadership coaching engagements demand varying time commitments. Leadership coaches employ real-time observation and experiential learning to understand each leader’s capabilities amid their day-to-day responsibilities. Each step is carefully crafted and personalized, optimizing time while ensuring leadership teams are still able to function effectively in their daily operations.

Executive leadership coaching engagements traditionally include a mix of coaching, facilitation, individual- and team-level interventions. These each demand different time commitments, depending on the leader’s role in the achievement of the team’s objectives. But if you’re concerned coaching will be a distraction, nothing could be farther from the truth.

Leadership Coaching Optimizes - Not Disrupts - Day-to-Day Work Performance

Coaches use real-time observation and proven experiential learning techniques to accelerate strategic initiatives by upskilling leaders while they do their day-to-day work. Far from removing leaders from their work, executive team coaches pair immersive workshops that address specific methods or behaviors with an “on the field” approach that leverages the team’s existing meeting cadences and expected deliverables as the mechanism for support and improvement. This approach commonly averages out to 6-10 hours of participating in coaching activities each month of an engagement, with very little of that time spent on tasks other than those directly tied to accomplishing the team’s articulated goals.

The C-Suite is Critical to Leadership Team Coaching Success

Leadership team coaching engagements also have important expectations for the CEO or designated team leader. They are asked to participate more heavily up front during discovery and goal identification, with participation lessening over the term of the engagement as their team members evolve from functional peers to collaborative and effective executive team members. The team leader plays a critical and ongoing role in making decisions that create clarity of purpose and accountability.

Although common, concerns regarding time monopolization during leadership team coaching are misplaced. The integrated, customized approach, which hinges on real-time learning and precisely targeted interventions, seamlessly merges with ongoing team commitments. By intricately weaving coaching into existing meeting cadences and anticipated outcomes, the coaching process becomes an organic part of the team's pursuits, rather than a detractor.
